HEAD COACH
John Breen is an accomplished rowing coach and former elite athlete with more than 25 years of experience developing competitive rowers at the high school, collegiate, and
elite level.
He most recently coached at University Barge Club on Boathouse Row in Philadelphia and serves as Head Coach for the summer programs at Sag Harbor Community Rowing in
Eastern Long Island. From 2017 until the onset of COVID, he coached women’s rowing at the University of Pennsylvania, where he played a pivotal role in developing the high-
performance programming that led the team to medal at the Ivy League Championships for the first time in 2018. He also guided the UBC women’s 2X to both the 2016 Olympic Trials and the 2015 Pan American Games Trials.
John is the owner and founder of Main Line High Performance (MLHP), a training organization that works with athletes across all sports to enhance performance and navigate the college recruitment process. MLHP also offers specialized programs including Body//Mind, Adaptational Rx, and corporate team-building workshops.
A former member of the U.S. National Rowing Team who competed at the World Cup, John brings an elite athlete’s perspective and a coach’s precision to the Radnor Girls Crew Club. His coaching method is rooted in sports physiology and backed by the latest performance science, combining technical accuracy with evidence-based training principles. At Radnor, he focuses on building each athlete’s speed, skill, and resilience, while fostering teamwork and a strong competitive mindset both on and off the water.
